It is because it leaves a little to the imagination and it accents the near naked body in a nice way. So it does tend to have that effect. Lingerie is always a nice touch and adds spice - especially when a curvacious beauty is filling it. hehe

This is because men are attracted to femininity we are programmed that way. and silks and chiffon and the like are representative of that in ladies underwear. Its the opposite of what a man is meant to wear.
It helps dress the woman and adds to her femininity. and when she does it right she can really get the wolves howling.
I mean it beats your girl turning up in jeans and a lumberjack shirt.
I wish women would wear skirts and dresses more , im sure guys would agree. we like that if it means any thing to you gals.

Yeah the first answer was close to being right. But it is like a well wrapped present. Looks really good wrapped up but it is the interest of what is underneath that makes it more erotic.

Frankly, lingerie is ok.
But, the way undergarments fit & accent the body's features & highlights is more stimulating & appealing.
Mankind created clothing because of his own insecurity.

I think contrast is exciting.
Black silk on light skin.
Dark hair on light skin.I don't like girls that shave it all off.
I think a woman wearing a man's button up shirt and nothing else is about as sexy as it gets.
It's hard to beat raw.

I like naked better. But lingerie is sexy because it accentuates your body, and emphasizes your sexuality. (this is why colour is important. More important than the lingerie itself in-fact. Some like red, because its blaring, some like black, for darkness and mystery. etc.)
Which would perfectly explain why some gay men like it so much.
and why straight (straight in more than one sense) men like it on women.
