1) Are you a smoker? No.

4) Do you care if a loved one (friend, parent, child, sibling, lover, grandparent) smokes? Yes, I wish they didn't do that to themselves. I wish they'd think more about their health and well-being.

5) Do you think that smoking should be banned in public places like offices, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and airports? Yes, definitely. I don't mind those places having smoking sections though, as long as they are well separated from the non-smoking places.

7) Do you think that secondhand smoke (SHS) is harmful to health? Yes.

8) If you DON't smoke, do your loved ones smoke in your presence (if they are smokers)? Some of them do, some of them don't. I avoid being near people while they smoke, so when someone starts smoking around me there is a good chance that I leave.

10) Which do you think is safest: pipes, cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco? I don't know. All of them are harmful. But at least chewing tobacco only harms the person chewing it and not people around them.

Are you conducting this survey as part of a graduate program?

1.) Yes. I smoke.
2.) Sometimes I want to quit. Sometimes I don't.
3.) I have tried to quit and succeeded in quitting.
4.) I think everyone has the option of choosing for themselves.
5.) I think were an eating establishment to choose to incorporate adequate ventillation and seating to segregate the smokers and the smokey air from the non-smokers, it is acceptable for restaurants to allow smoking. I think offices should be smoke free. I think bars should be a 100% smoking-allowed environment and if non-smokers don't like smoke, they don't have to go to a bar. If a nightclub is actually a bar, smoking should be allowed. If it is a dance club, smoking should not be allowed at all. I think airports should have smoking rooms for smokers.
6.) I rarely smoke in public, unless I'm outside.
7.) I think secondhand smoke is very harmful to people's health.
8.) When I was a non-smoker, I had relatives who smoked around me. I didn't like it.
9.) I smoke in front of anyone who knows me, but I do not do it inside. It is not a shameful thing as the question implies.
10.) I think of the choices, cigars are the least hazardous because cigar smokers generally do not inhale the smoke, but they are still hazardous since using them can cause lip cancer.

Demographics:
I'm 40.
I'm male.
I live in the U.S.

1) Are you a smoker?... no
2) Do you want to quit?... see above
3) Have you tried to quit and have you suceeded or not?... see number 1
4) Do you care if a loved one (friend, parent, child, sibling, lover, grandparent) smokes?... yes. I worry about their health and being around it makes me sick.
5) Do you think that smoking should be banned in public places like offices, restaurants, bars, nightclubs, and airports?... in them, yes, but I think they should have a covered place to smoke. Smoke travels. You have a smoking section in a bar or restaurant, the rest of the patrons get second hand smoke.
6) Do you now smoke in public places?... see number one
7) Do you think that secondhand smoke (SHS) is harmful to health?... yes, if I am around it, it is bad for me.
8) If you DON't smoke, do your loved ones smoke in your presence (if they are smokers)?... no
9) Do you smoke in front of loved ones who don't smoke?... see number one
10) Which do you think is safest: pipes, cigarettes, cigars, or chewing tobacco?... its all poison

my grandma has smoked ever since the Vietnam war and hasn't stopped since. he has heart problems and was told he'd die in 2 years if he didn't stop smoking, and quitting would prolong his life. he refuses to stop no matter what any of my family member says (even my dad who is a doctor/surgeon). it's sad really to see people who can't quit though really.
