You can find someone who will induce you.
What is your doctor currently saying? Is there a plan for if you reach a certain point? Usually at this point it is NOT completely open-ended. Do you already have a date set up and feel that it is not soon enough?

Back in the day, 15 or 20 years ago, doctors didn't induce labor nearly as much as they do now. A lot of time it's done for convenience; either to fit the doctor's schedule or the patient's request.
I would caution you on insisting on this, however. I think that for the most part, the body knows what it's doing. Sometimes dates can be slightly off and baby may not be ready to come.
I can understand your frustration at being pregnant for what seems like forever. I carried two of my babies nearly 42 weeks and the third even longer. I think that the dates were off on the third but for me sitting there waiting and waiting and waiting, it was eternal. (I was due July 20, she was born Sept 10)
I have helped almost 400 women birth and many of them were induced. Induction starts the labor before your body is ready and it tends to be much more painful. I'm a believer in letting the body do what it needs because so many times when you interfere with that process, you create more problems that need to be treated.
Being on IV Pitocin in the hospital will keep you confined to the bed and unable to distract yourself from the contractions. The artificial way that labor is started can be very hard on the body and sometimes even on the baby.
There are some natural ways to get labor going that will work if your body is ready. If it's not ready, they won't work. These include intercourse (semen contains prostaglandin which softens the cervix and can bring on contractions), red rapsberry leaf tea, and others. Check my link at the bottom for more details.
As long as baby is moving well and you're being monitored regularly by your doctor, there is nothing to worry about. The hard part is passing the time without going crazy.
My usual prescrpition of a warm bath with candles and music is in order here. A massage, a swim if you can. These things will help relieve some of the stress: do them every day.
Good Luck and blessings to you and baby!

Don't ask to be induced, if the baby isn't ready then it isn't ready. Even if you know the exact date you concieved that doesn't mean you are 42 weeks pregnant, they always take the first day of your last period. If the baby is still healthy and the placenta is still functioning properly then wait for those few more days. I was induced at 42 weeks and they totally ****** it up, it is not straight forward and doesn't mean you will then have a natural birth. ALL of the ladies that went into hospital to be induced on the same days as me had to have a c-section in the end and mine ended up being an emergency c-section as me and baby were dying. They overdosed on the drugs as they didn't think it was happening fast enough and nearly killed us. I would most definately wait until your 42 weeks is up, get the baby checked regularly to make sure all still ok and then if no luck book in for a planned c-section. The recovery after an emergency c-section after induction is hell and i wouldn't wish that on anyone.
You'll probably hate my answer to your question as i know how totally miserable i was being 42 weeks pregnant but in the long run being induced isn't the way. Medical intervention should be at a minimum. Try all of the natural ways to kick start labour first.
I didn't even get to see my baby being born which ruined it completely for me so make sure that you at least get to see your little one come into the world.
Best of luck.xx

You can't demand to be induced as with ethics and malpractice worries - a doctor has a responsibility to make certain that your baby is born as healthy as possible - with no premature delivery concerns. Of course now that you are past the 40 weeks of a standard pregnancy, that seems like a silly fear! However, most docs wont move forward unless the baby is in distress, having complications, or is growing an enormous size. If you are serious about speeding things along, try having sex (combined with nipple stimulation). The sperm from your husband can help relax the muscles and the mere act of you having an orgasm - yes it is all about you!- will produce oxytocin (a chemical needed for contractions). Have fun - and good luck!

It is very unhealthy for the baby for you to go more than 42 weeks.
Because the placenta is less effective at delivering nutrients after about 42 weeks, and other serious complications also become more likely as you pass your due date, most doctors will induce labor if it hasn't started on its own by two weeks after your due date
You're still pregnant one to two weeks past your due date. Most practitioners won't let you wait longer than that to give birth because it puts you and your baby at greater risk for a host of problems. For example, it's more likely you'll develop an infection in your uterus that could be dangerous for your baby, or that your placenta will stop functioning properly, which could lead to a stillbirth or a baby born with serious problems. What's more, your labor is more likely to be prolonged or stalled, both you and your baby have an increased risk of injury during a vaginal delivery, and your chances of needing a c-section are higher.

You probably won't have to, the doctors should be calling you in any day now. You can call your doctor and ask them when you will be induced and they will tell you the set date or make one for you. They usually dont let you go past 42 weeks unless there is a good reason. Good luck and congrats!

You cannot demand it, there is too much risk to the hospital so they won't do anything without the doctor's recommendation. 40 weeks is the average gestation for a human being, the date may be off and you may just take a little longer than most to carry a baby. There is do it yourself induction (walking, sex and nipple stimulation) but other than that, you will have to wait or find another doctor. Good luck.

Each place is different. It depends on the policy of hospital, region or municipality you are in.
Here, after 42 weeks the doc will schedule an induction. They don't let it go past 43 weeks.
Ask your doctor about it. You probably can ask for one. Demanding, no matter how you might feel, might not be the way to get results....

You need to be induced as soon as possible. Once you go over 40 weeks your baby and you could face many problems. Lack of water in your water bag, lack of space to move for your growing baby, your chances of having to have a c-section grow because your baby is still growing and might not fit into the birth canal, your baby could get stressed and have a bowl movement which could be very fatal. Their are all different risks you are capable of having. If I were you I would, YES, demand to be induced! Contact your doctor right away or go straight to the hospital.
