Is it still necessary to get married or just stay in a long term relationship with your partner to avoid ugly divorce if ever things don't work out?

Start out LTR with the option to marry If things work out. I mean really get to know each other. I am a bit of a traditionalist and I like the idea of being married to my love - even if I have to wait awhile. What about you?

Don't worry, No decent man would divorce an angel (-;

Hi Thinkerb, In my case i should of moved out of California and lived in another state. I was marry for 30 years took for ever to divorce this JOKER (14 months) One thing California doesn't recognize Long term relationship and you will be out in the cold but no court and no judge running your life and saying yes or no to you. No more marriage for me i have learn my lesson 3 times over. This kid is going to just live with the man i am interested in and if he in the future wants to get marry i will leave him. I know this is hard,but my divorce was even harder. That JOKER got half of my house that i had and pay for myself. So you can see how CRAPPY California's laws are. So my friend always just live with the JERKS and be save on what you have yourself. Believe me DIVORCES DO GET VERY VERY UGLY!!!
A Friend.

I think it's good to wait at least 3 years before getting married and to live together for at least a full year too. That way you know for sure what you are getting yourself into. My bf and I have been together for almost 6 years and we live together and have a baby, but we are not married yet. it'll come eventually, but it's like we are anyways, so why waste all that money for a wedding right now?

I live in California, and if an unmarried couple is together 7 years here it is considered a "common law" marriage, and the same rules apply as those of legally married folk, i.e. what's your's is hers, and vice versa.

I chose to marry. I want to spend the rest of my life with my husband. If I ever get divorced, I'll deserve all the ugliness of it.

LTR is the only way to go.

Marriage is the biggest lie ever told and just another pretext to hand control of your life and your possessions over to the government.
