Vegetables come quite cheap in Jakarta. The rents in decent area depends on how big the house is, access road, etc. But it should be around 1-3 million rupiahs, that's not more than US$ 400.
The weather at this time of year is kind of unpredictable. It could be very hot, then it could rain hard too.
Most big supermarket have Indian food section. You can get practically everything here. Also lots of Indian restaurants.

Vegetables, hmmm, there are lots and lots og veggies here.
Tomato, potato, ladies fingers, cucumbers, cabbage, broccoli, pumpkin, lettuce, spinach, carrots, squash, cauliflower, kailan, bok choy, corn, endive, beet, eggplant/aubergine, pepper, zucchini, beans, celery, leek, bamboo shoot, cassava, sweet potato, radish, taro, etc.

Cost of unboiled rice is about 4,000 - 10,000 rupiahs per litre.

If you live moderately, you might save up to 65% of your salary.

OMG!!!

with salary like this you can live like a king in jakarta.

so you can absolutely find a decent place by the heart of jakarta, you can look for a place near to work and just went to work with busway, the cost daily is less than a dollar a day. ( even cheaper if you buy the monthly pass.

if you prefer to live in style, you can lease car (cost depend of what car you choose.. around 200 dollars) and get a driver for less than 150 USD a month.

feel tired and want someone to take care of your appartments? you can have a maid with 100USD a month (a generous salary already)

about rent, for around 400 dollar you can get yourself a more than decent place.

as for vegetarian food, don't worry there are a lot of vegetarian restaurant if you stay in the south area where most of the expat reside.

vegetable will vary depending on the season, but you can find almost all kind of vegetable in Indonesia.

hmm.. cost for 1 KG of unboiled rice is around 2 dollar.. already good quality one..

even when you live like this you can still afford to have a savings of at least 50% of your income!!!

seriously, if the company willing to pay you this high, jump at it!!!

Depends on your own condition, whether you're married and have children or single, your life-style, etc. I assume you're single though, then I can say you'll save quite a lot, say about 30%-40%.

Jakarta's cost of living is still considered one of the lowest in the region although cost of living in India is way lower than that of Indonesia. However, if you're not from India that may not be a big issue for you.

Vegetarian restos are increasingly popular as life-style in today's Jakarta. Indian restos have gained much popularity here as well for quite a long time. Price-wise, the types of resto cost you higher than local or fast food restos though.

Enjoy your new chapter in Jakarta! :-p

If you rent a fancy apartment, it would be USD 1000 per month.
Some standard apartment in Kelapa Gading will cost you USD 500 - 600 per month.
For groceries, it will be around USD 100 - 200 per month.
For transportation, if you take a cab to the office, it would be USD 200 per month.

So basically you can save around USD 1500 - 2000 per month.

What do you do? Are you an ERP consultant?

well, if you like to hang out and drink out with friends... it's going to be difficult to save up.
anyway, te veggies here are practically cost nothing (if you cook yourself) per bundle only cost you around 4-7 cent (in USD)

the rice... you got the answer there. but it'll be costly if you only want biryani rice (it is considered as premium rice)

the apartement rent for taman rasuna (central of civilization) is around 300 - 500 $ for single bedroom
other place might cost you more, but you might want better place like in sudirman area and that can cost you more than 1000$

car... I dont recommend you to buy or rent one, use cab! or better 'ojek' my indian friend enjoys ojek very much.

dont worry about missing home cooking here, jakarta is loaded with indian restaurants.

indian cooking ingredients, you can buy them at big supermarket.

if you want to know.... 3300$ if you convert it to rupiah, it's more or less around 30 millions.

welcome to jakarta...
challo!

hahahaha....to be honest, that is not the expatriate salary in Indonesian range. That is only salary for local manager. So, you have to consider yourself before you accept the job. Salary for expatriate is much much higher than that.
Plus as an expatriate mostly they got car, housing, driver, schooling for your kids, etc.
Plus you have to consider the tax that you have to pay, costly around 35%.
Plus you have to consider the inflation rate in Indonesia, mostly around 20 - 30% per year. Don't trust the official inflation announcement from the government.
Plus you have to consider the dollar exchange rate to Rupiah. Rupiah is getting stronger.
So... with 3300USD, at the end of the year, how much you can save?
If you have children and without the facilities you get from the Company, you will not save a penny.
If you didn't have a children and without the facilities you get from the Company, you only save a little.
Don't forget the gasoline price too.
Trust me, I am only a local manager with that salary plus car, housing, medical, gasoline facility. Lucky me, I have a husband who works too and with higher salary than me. Than..we can save and we can have a middle status life here.
