What was pythagoras's role in engineering. What about math besides the pythagoreum theorum?

He proved, among other things, the existence of 'irrational' numbers. It was considered such a deep dark secret that the Pythagoreans were sworn to kill any of their number who revealed what they had discovered.

Pythagoras prove the existence of irrational numbers. He wasnt any happy with his discovery
