It's part of a covenant between me, my partner and my God in front of our assembled friends and family.
And it should be something you believe in long before you say the words or it's not worth a tinker's damn. It's something I deeply believe to be an absolute, for me. If there ever is a next time, I'll truly have to know it's an absolute for her also.
But, it is only a part of an agreement. Without the committment of 'love, honour and cherish', then the convenant is already broken.

It means commitment when commitment counts the most: through the tough times.
You should see a good movie, The Secret Lives of Dentists. It's great and it confronts this issue.

Another way to subjugate the female. Marriage is an obsolete tradition, created in a time when women were considered property. Never will there be a ring on this finger.

To me, it meant just when I thought I couldn't hang on anymore or I couldn't possibly stretch myself anymore, I did. I went to the ends of the Earth and back, tried everything. Almost died trying. Then I was told that I wasn't expected to remain if the abuse continued. It did. So I left.
