Of course you can you inherit traits from many generations back on both sides of the family. Ear lobes are not like blood & eye color & DNA.

Attached earlobes are a recessive trait which means both parents would have to be double recessive. It would be impossible for two attached earlobe parents to have a detached earlobe baby.

Detached non-carrier: EE
Detached carrier: Ee
Attached: ee

The short answer is no. Attached is a recessive trait, meaning neither parent could donate the allele necessary for detached lobes.

The long answer is that if you assume that earlobe attachment is governed by one single gene, then the above is true. However, it is probably likely that multiple genes are responsible for how the earlobes develop.

If both parents have attached earlobes the baby will also have attached earlobes unless there is a mutation in the gene sequence.

Yes, detached is a recessive trait if both parents are hybrids, Ee(carry one dominant gene for attached one for recessive detached), then they can have a baby who is recessive ee, 25% chance.

Weskingston is absolutely right and everyone else, so far is wrong. This trait is straight Mendelian recessive So, aa is the only possible genotype/phenotype in this instance. ( this bars non-disjunction and all other recombinant errors )

Sure. If the recessive is present in both parents, it can dominate in the offspring. Just like 2 brown-eyed parents can have a blue-eyed child.

chances are 1:4, depending upon their Grand parents. If Great grand parents also considered it will be 1:8 chances.
