Parole is a release from prison before the full term has been served. During this time, the parolee has to report to a parole officer on a regular basis--usually once a week--and stay out of trouble. Violation of the conditions of parole can mean returning to prison to serve the remainder of the term.
Assault charges can be filed when a suspect intentionally injures another person even if the injury is trivial. This means being arrested, handcuffed, taken into custody, and brought before a judge or magistrate, who sets a trial date and decides on the terms of release pending that trial.

Parole is granted to a person who has served time in prison as a felon. Somebody on parole has been granted parole due to good behavior, and it's also based on the sentencing guidelines. A parole board (or prisoner review board) makes a determination as to whether or not to grant parole. This is not for people who were in jail. Jail is for people convicted of misdemeanors and/or people awaiting trial. People who are convicted of misdemeanors might be sentenced to probation, which is often confused with parole.
Each person on parole has a unique reporting system they have to follow. As examples of some of the requirements, there is rehab, counciling, AA meetings, wearing an electronic monitoring device on their ankle, carrying a GPS tracking device (usually sexual predators), required to get a job, maintain a certain distance from their victim, pay restitution, report to their parole officer at certain times, abstain from drugs and alcohol, the list goes on. Any violation could be a one-way ticket back to prison, but with overcrowding, it usually isn't.
Assault is the threat of violence, but it is often incorrectly used to describe battery (actual use of violence). In some states, a charge of assault requires physical contact.

Parole is for people who are released from prison. It is a program to keep track of them, usually involving a parole officer.
Assualt charges stem from someone getting violent, causing physical harm to another.

Parole means you are let out of jail before your time is up, but if you do anything wrong you go back to jail to complete your sentence. assault technically means you threaten to hurt/hit someone, but is usually taken to mean you actually hit someone, which is "battery". Assault and battery is the charge, but it has been shortened to assault.
