I'm making a mousetrap car. I need an axle for the wheels. I looked at Home depot and Lowes and searched axles, but nothing comes up. What should I search, and what are they called?

Try "rod" (metal), or "music wire"

They are called axles, but you need to look in hobby stores (i.e. Hobby lobby), or crafts stores (i.e. Michaels MJ Designs) for them. If not, let those at home depot know what you are trying to make and they should be able to help you come up with the right parts. Worst case, try a toy store and use the axles off an already built car.

They are called axles if wheels are mounted on them, you will not find them at jewellery stores either.

Try "dowels" or "shafts" or "tubing" or even "rods."
Good luck with the car.
