Hi! I want to know what you all think about global poverty. Can it be stopped? What causes it? (there are many, often indirect causes)

What do you think about the Make Poverty History campaign (the One campaign)?

What are you, or anybody you know, doing to help end global poverty?

I think of global poverty is rampant all around the world. nowadays some rich people get richer & richer. nobody could stop it unless the governmment will provide a bit of incentive to this poor people to get on little business so they can have something to fall back on.The cause of poverty in the world is your own bad choices in life, like being on drugs or any destructive means will make you poor.Make history poverty campaign is good.World vision is one helps poverty.

well I know that the USA government is the #1 country that gives donations of food and clothing and money to the poor in other countries. But I also know that other countries are asking the USA people to pitch in (as though we weren't part of the government...we do pay taxes that goes to the government so in essence we're paying double, maybe even paying tripple in that we do attend functions and buy products when they are being sold for the purpose of helping poor countries) then in addition we are asked to "volunteer" or time.

Everyone has an opinion on the subject of global poverty (which usually people are referring to other countries rather than the poor in our own country the USA). If you send rice, for instance, to "some" other countries sometimes the food is stopped by those who want to control the poor and our gifts don't reach the poor. Some of the causes of people being poor are war, earthquakes, volcanoes, tornadoes, hurricanes, fire, floods, as well as deforestation (not replanting), using up all the fish without raising fish and repopulating the waters, sex without protection, rejection of western medicine, not enough water for plants and people not rotating their crops or letting the land sit for a while before re-cropping, the lands dry out and parch, unable to educate because of the country's corruption. Can poverty be stopped. To a point it can be slowed but at some point in time the poor people have to start working and earning for themself, and usually someone from the outside, like an NGO, has to help them get started again and that takes millions of dollars for each village to be changed, and then it takes a lot of time to start over (for example New Orleans).

I never heard of the One campaign.
What am I doing? Volunteering my time, giving my money, my efforts, locating employment for people, doing business plans, doing peoples resumes, teaching them to start their own business, making connections for donations and grants for orphans, and providing responses to peoples questions.

locally I donate food to the food pantry.
my church gives a percent of church money to aiding the world.
But try as we do, Jesus said the poor will always be with us. It is sad.

I can't tell you how it started but this is part of what keeps it going on in developing countries:
