No, it is not illegal. Your IP is very common knowledge and extremely easily accessible.

Ever wonder how some ads know approximately where you live? It's your IP address.

I doubt it. Your computer's IP address is not personal information. Every time you visit a web site, you give the site your IP address so it can send the requested page.

Giving out your other information may violate the site's privacy policy. Check it out.

If this is your home computer and you didn't pay extra money for a static IP address (address that never changes), turn off the modem, wait 2 minutes, turn on the modem. Now you have a new IP address.

Did you read the message boards user agreement when you signed up? Most make you check a box that says you agree to it. If that said anything about your username, password, profile, whatever that you provide in in the board is owned by them then they can do whatever they like with it as long as they don't directly slander you or anything.

If those terms said that they will protect your privacy like most do, then they are in the wrong and are breaking a verbal agreement.

It just depends on what you've signed up into.

You have to check their privacy policy. Your IP address is automatically broadcast to the internet every time you're online.

look at it this way.. did you give them permission to give out your personal information? - put it in writing and gather some evidence that they really gave out your information... if its really that serious, get a lawyer and then sue them!
