At least they are working for them and not muching off the welfare system

Pay an acceptable wage, the reason public workers get "entitlements" is because they get paid a below market wage for the work that they do, in return for this, they get defined benefits during retirement, the longer life expectancy has made this more costly to municipalities.

and remove the give aways to developers, years of republican administrations have given the proverbial "farm" to big business while failing to address the true cost of public services. (tax free development zone, public funding of professional sports stadiums, land give aways etc.)

All the cities that are crying about pension deficits are the same cities that didn't pay into the retirement funds for years while the market was kicking butt, but as soon as the market slowed down... The sky is falling...
