I assume you mean the 1906 quake. Well, in keeping with the conventional wisdom of the 21st century, the ruins were leveled and all people left the area, making it a hugh nature preserve to be enjoyed.

If you believe that one, I have a bridge across the Golden Gate to sell you. The ruins were leveled, the city was rebuilt and the fire department was reformed. There is a fairly recent National Geographic Magazine article on this= take a look.
