Oh, dear. At least it wasn't rotten eggs -- those are even worse!

First, make sure you cleaned *everything* up. Get an old toothbrush and scrub the rubber gasket and any crannies. Soak the shelves in the bathtub, maybe with a little bleach. Look under the fridge, and make sure that's completely clean. Check out the garbage can -- did some of the mess leak out of the trash bag into there?

Once you are sure it's all clean, put a box of baking soda in the fridge -- you can also clean up with baking soda, and it will help neutralize the smell. Another thing to try is vinegar.

I don't know what to say if it got into the carpet, except try dabbing it with vinegar, let it dry completely, pour some baking soda on top, let it sit overnight then vacuum.

Good luck!

Rent an ozone machine from your local rental store. The source of the odor must be removed first, which probably means ditching the frige.
Remember to remove and discard any furnace filters prior to running the machine, as the odor will be in them also. And also be sure to open all closet doors so the ozone can enter those areas and get rid of any odor in clothing, etc.
It may take quite awhile to eliminate the odor ... depends on the room size, the ozone machine capabilities and the odor.
You may have to run the machine for 24-hours and you do not need to be in the house when it's running. After it has been used, open windows to vent the ozone before staying in there for any length of time.

First of all, fill that fridge up with a large bowl of baking soda. Next, fill a pan half way with water and bring to a boil. Add cinnamon, apple pie spice, cloves, and turn it down to low and simmer for a while. Third, treat yourself to a fresh jug of milk!

get a thick cotton fibre sponge mop,a big pan of hot water, citrus dish soap, clean & rinse EVERYTHING,carpet, walls ceiling,,,,,let dry.then use ps disinfecting foam in more hot water(get stuff from chain food store),,put about 15 seconds worth of stuff in the water,,,mop again,,,,,,if you have a home depot portavac with exhaust nozzle & concentrator, blow air current across any stem sprayer stuck in a bottle with 8 oz of water ,and a couple squirts of the foam,,,making like a mini power sprayer.direct spray all over room ,up & down,,,,,remove cats kids & dogs for the project,,,,,,ps foam has wide range antibacterial & also antifungal properties,,is real good at destinking living space,,,,could also get a sunlamp from a thrift shop to run a couple hours a day for a week or so,,,,,,the acetic acid in milk would be broken up by baking soda as a rinse(in a bucket of water,,,,,,,,once experienced a big mess in the form of a corning ware blue pyrex glass coffe pot that was cooking on low heat,,,,,quietly,,,,,,until ,from next room heard......boom,,,,,thought kitchen was under attack,,,,it was,,,by the coffee pot,,,,,,the thing shattered, grounds everywhere, shards of glass, same,,,still found shards of glass 6 months after, lodged in cabinets, pantry, maybe was a poltergeist
