I have a Dell and I bought a S-Video cord, plugged it into my television hoping to watch my movies from my laptop on my t.v. and nothing happens. What am I doing wrong?

So, I mentioned I had a Dell and I'm running Windows XP, the s-video cable is new and the television is a Phillips.

Assuming the s-video cable is good (I've had problems with the cables):

The pc must be set to send the signal out the s-video plug. Each pc is different so you'll need to look in the manual.

The tv must be set to receive the s-video signal. This is usually the AUX input. To test it, your DVD player might also use an s-video port. Once it is working, you can plug the pc in.

If your TV and computer has a D-sub (15 pin) cable input/output jack, then you can buy the cable and connect it that way. You can also use a dvi digital cable if your TV and computer has the appropriate input/output jacks. Or you can use a S-video cable as well. Some TV's don't work with HDMI or DVI cables when hooked up to a computer. For sound, just hook up a pc audio cable between your computer and the TV.

Make sur eyou're on the "video 1" or "video 2" channel on most TVs, and if you've never done that before, it
s the video in place that it's on. on my TV, it says "AV" as the video and audio in channel, and there are others but they don't work on that kind of in, maybe your TV works on those channels, test it out!
