Let me answer in this way:

"I love Lucy" was the "Elvis Presley" of the Sitcom world. This is the comedy that started it all. It was the first Sitcom not only to use 2 camera's on stage, but also the first comedy to be recorded on film. (This was due to the longevity that film had over tape at the time). This was due to the genius of Desi Arnez. Lucille Ball was the first Queen of comedy, there is no doubt in that what so ever !!!!!

"Mash" was probably the "Beatles" of the sitcom World. "Mash" went on to win more awards than any sitcom in history, that no one has come close to beating. It is also one of the longest running sitcoms of all time and inspired so many other shows including your Hospital dramas that would soon follow..

My personal favorite was Get Smart. But I like idiot humor. There have been some great ones...meaning individual performances, script writing, and indivuality, so in no particular order:
I Love Lucy, The Jack Benny Show, The Dick Van Dyke Show, All in the Family, The Mary Tyler Moore Show, Newhart, MASH, Cheers, and probably a few others I can't think of right now.

Seinfeld does not count because it deviates too much from the standard sitcom format.

The best sitcom, in fact the only good sitcom at all, was the immortal

Sanford and Son.

Friends. I know allot of people will say Seinfeld, but I just didn't care about the characters. Frasier was good if you like dry comedy. One of my favorite shows is Arrested Development, but I don't think of that as A traditional sitcom.

My first decision is for specific The Black Adder in all his incarnations, yet incredibly the international conflict One trenches season. Others could desire to be: Mr. Humphries of "Are You Being Served replaced into cool." How approximately Ed and Chris of "Northern exposure"? Agent Cooper of "twin Peaks"? Hawkeye, B.J. Hunnicut, Colonel Potter, and Margaret of "M.A.S.H." Gracie Allen genuinely everyone in "Fawlty Towers."
