My cat died in the middle of winter and I couldn't bury it. So some friends told me to wrap her up and put her in my freezer and bury her in the spring. Well I forgot all about her. She has been in there for a 1 1/2 and I just found her. Anyone else have done something similar?

The freezer is an old freezer in the garage that I never used anyways.

Yes, I have. My 16 year old lorikeet is in the freezer at the moment. I won't move him until I find the perfect place to bury him. I also keep interesting specimens that come to me through my wildlife rescue work. Have had everything from a koala to a seal in my freezer at one time or another. Mind you, this is in a special freezer that I also keep feeder rats and chicks in.

Yes, I've briefly used my freezer to store (a well wrapped/packaged) pet cat, and on a different occasion, a litter of baby bunnies whose mother killed them while I had my back turned, until I could arrange to bury them. After all, cold storage is used for people, why not animals. The deceased pets weren't in there for more than a few days, however before I was able to dispose of their remains~~I live in a climate that's warm enough I don't have to wait an entire season for the ground to thaw!!

No worries, you're not too strange for it~~Or, I'm weirder than I thought~~just give kitty a good send off soon!

Yup! Fish, hamsters, frogs and lizards have all gone in my freezer until spring/summer when they could be buried.

Also, I worked in a pet shop for a long time as an animal tech. Last summer a person dropped off a box of YOUNG kittens, but dropped off I mean we didn't even see who left the box by the store front... they were young and sick. They all died :( The went into the freezer until we could take them to the vet's office to be cremated - yes we tried to save them, but when we go them they were already dehydrated, starved and weak. They died waiting for the vet to come and see them at the store, they were so sick we were afraid to transport them there!

Oh, and we put a dead bird in there once too! A student was cleaning the cage, it got out, flew into a mirror and died! And people use to get mad at us for clipping the wings!

If you bury your pet, do you worry about another animal digging him up and eating him ?. I DO

my fish died at night and I put it in the freezer so i could bury it later, also my hamster also died at night and it went into the freezer so i could wait for morning to do something with it. I won't put anything in the trash because it would smell bad

Hopefully your kitty was sealed in a sturdy container or bag. You definitely don't want your own food around her bodily fluids should they escape out.

I live in a cold climate and this happens frequently.

Feel free to bury her now that summer is coming, and de-thawing your freezer and wiping it out with a disinfectant isn't a bad idea either.

I just don't get how your cat was so beloved yet you forgot about her. Why didnt you take her to the vet when she died? They have ways of taking care of that. You should just bury her now.

I know someone who had a ferett in her freezer. Creamation isn't that expensive. Do you really want to eat food from a freezer with a dead cat in it? Think of all the germs and illness you could get from it.

Nope can't say that I have. Would be really creepy having my beloved dead pet in the freeze not to mention a health hazard
