Everyone says if there's any racism in American Idol it's "America's" fault because we vote for who goes home, but I don't think that's true. With the # of people that audition around the country, I'm sure there are other talented non-white contestants. I'm white and I think American Idol is not necessarily racist, but could do a better job of promoting non-white talent. Here's the thing... they chose the top 24. In the top 24, the majority are always white. There may be one or two or even three asians & hispanics, and then a couple of black people thrown in to the mix, but still, mostly white. My theory on this is that they try to get a mix of different sounds into the show and perhaps white people have a more broad range of styles than people of color. This may be a racist statement in itself, but you can see how in Hollywood Week they'll choose between two people who are too similar for the show, both in terms of vocal quality & looks. So they might have two or three larger black men, for instance, who make Hollywood Week. But only one would make it through to the top 24. It would be nice if one season it worked out at the majority of people in the top 24 were not white. They shouldn't pick the top 24 based on the color of skin either way, but at some point one has to wonder how much racism plays into picking the top 24. Even someone like Angela Martin didn't make it (after going to Hollywood Week 3 years in a row) and then Ellen & Kara gave her a record contract anyway. Did they think she wouldn't make it past racist voters in America? Or why not put her into the top 24? Too many non-white people? Are the judges concerned that America is, in fact, racist and if they have too many people of color in the mix, they might go home too early... after all, people tend to vote/like people who look like them, and if the audience is mostly white people then the few people who would vote for someone who is of a different skin color would then be split amongst too many choices and all the talent of those who are not white would be kicked out of the game way too early? This is the only reason I can see that they limit the # of people of color on the show every year. It kind of makes sense, you know?

William Hung has marginal singing talent at best, and he never even made it past auditions. That comedy version of "She Bangs" should've been an e-mail joke.

While he may be funny and very talented in his own way. He is not what American idol is looking for, and is definately not the best talent in America!

he was never actually voated out sense he never made the cut in the first place. Needless to say he did have a short lived but successful career, and made a nice chunk of cash off his spoof reccords. I'll bet he made enough money to pay for his big-brain degree. more power to him.
