Because of the increasing gas prices, we can't afford to bring in as many sheep as it usually takes, which is in the mid 100s. That's usually when sheep counters lose their number and start over again. And because of the increasing gas prices, it's becoming less and less cost efficient to keep bringing in food for these sheep. The sheep eats typical sheep food. You know, hay, barley, etc. Sheep counters up in the Seattle area, California coast, northeast states, and coastal Florida can afford to feed their sheep corn on the cob. But even in these areas, it just doesn't make sense to keep feeding all these sheep the way we do.
So, what we've done is streamline the program. We've brought it down to 19 sheep. The reason is that it takes somewhere between 14 to 16 sheep to bring them backstage, take the count off their back, replace that count with the next number in line, and put it back in the queue before the counter gets back to him. The reason for 19 sheep is that it gives the sheep 3 to 5 counts for it to relax, take a break, catch its breath, whatever.
Oh, and to answer your baa question. What's the point of letting them baaa when you're counting them? You'll keep losing your count, having to start over, etc. that it becomes frustrating and stressful, and soon, the counter is back where he started. Awake and restless at 3 am. So, we've taken their tongues out. Oh, don't worry, it's only 19 sheep versus the hundreds of hundreds of sheep we would've had to mutilate. No, we give them anasthetic and surgically remove their tongues to be used as fodder for the local zoos. Oh, it's a tremendous program, one where sheep counters catch much needed sleep and zoos are very thankful for saving them some food money in the process. A win-win situation, if you will.
I believe I've answered your questions to the best of our abilities, and we hope you continue your patronage with us in counting our sheep. And remember, if you should feel the need to go count dolphins jumping out of the water, or salmon jumping into polar bear mouths, we will beat any rate the other competitors offer with no estimate required! Thank you very much for your attention, and we sincerely hope you continue to count the original. We're often imitated, never duplicated. Until then!

There must be only about 10 sheep in line for me , I've never gone past that . They have been nibbling at my hair for some time now ,I've even found a couple of bald spots recently. They can't even say baaa because the first one has a speech impediment and says daaaaad , the rest sort of float by stunned at that " news," as am I , and most generally I'm passed out by the time that 10th one comes along .

I found that cliche a conundrum. If I were to imagine sheep to be counting to try to sleep and they were eating and baaaing, how am I going to sleep through all that noise?

I would think they would make a light "baa" sound to help lull you to sleep as you count. Of course, real men don't count sheep, they actually count by two as they count big breasts.

I have them lined up from 1 to 100 at the white picket fence. They wait quietly. They graze on grass until their number is called.
