Long overdue! We spend so much time trying to help the hungry, the poor, the uneducated, etc in other countries that we begin to neglect our own. And here, Americans suffer daily...from hungry, poverty, violence...but it seems we spend less time helping our own people. It makes no sense. I think it's great that we allocate resources to other countries, but have we forgotten that to be a better nation, we must build from the inside? We are no stronger than our weakest members. It drives me crazy to see failing education programs, broken families, the loss of values, the increase in violence and I ask, why can we not make our own communities a better place???

Yes, there are many poor and uneducated people in our own country that need as much help as ones in foreign countries. I say we don't let any American citizen starve if we can help it.

Absolutely. While these pictures of starving children dying of AIDS in Africa break my heart, we have the same issues at hand here in the states. We need to help ourselves before we help others.

yes. it might sound insignificant at the moment but freecycle.org is a means for us to help one another and we do that every day in our communities through freecycle.org. its just one step but its a pretty big one
