Mine just rang. It turned out to be a wrong number, but I swear the first thing that flashed through my mind was my little sister and I was wondering if it would be the jail or the hospital.

Isn't that terrible?

Oh my gosh, yes! Especially when I still lived at my parent's house. I always had terrible thoughts running through my head, especially since they would never answer the damn thing!

No it is not terrible. I hate it when it rings late at night. I always think the worse. I am afraid someones is in a car wreck or in the hospital. yes and even in jail. Speaking of the phone mine just rang. I can't believe it while answering this question. No emergency. Just kids with no respect.

Some freak called me once around one in the morning when I was single and alone saying that he wanted to rub lotion all over my body! I just said, ' yeah , can ya call back tomorrow and will talk dipwad! Yes though, I tend to be a bit nervous if it rings after tenpm. worried about the family kind of thing! But if it rings in the middle of the night and I am sleeping I answer it ' Hello, and you are not my friend'. That will get rid of freaks, pervs and wrong numbers. Don't be scared. 'Have you checked on the children?' J/k

Glad yours was a false alarm ! Last night my phone rang and I could hear fear in my best friends voice. She called to tell me that there was a large column of smoke coming across the lake [ she lives on one side and I live on the other] I turned to look out the window and said OH S**T ! I dropped the phone and we took off to find the fire . It is about 3 miles from my house and thankfully the wind is blowing it away from us for now ! I have had more of those late night bad calls than I care to think about !

Happens to me every time. Even worse is when I'm at work and my cell phone rings. I don't give my number out to just anyone and those who I do, know that I hate being called late at night and to never call when I'm at work. So when this happens, I panic. I'm usually on the phone before the second ring.

Most of the time I do, I have special rings for certain people but if it isn't one of those rings then yes I freak out. I am a very paranoid person especially after my car wreck and I am so afraid that someone I love is going to be hurt and I am going to get the call in the middle of the night.

Unless you are used to getting casual calls late at night, I think that feeling of panic is natural. Recently, my boyfriend took a job in another state. He's living in a hotel room at the moment as he starts this new job and we won't have a place to live there together until next month. I worry about him being so far away and in somewhere so unfamiliar. I'm afraid something will happen to him and I'll get that late night call.. or worse.. no call at all.

I used to! My oldest sister, age 93, lived alone. When she was not well, she would always call me and I could usually talk with her and get her to become calm. Knowing that she depended on me, when the phone rang in the middle of the night, like Pavlov's dogs, my stomach would go into an knot.

Haha yeah I do that all the time. I'll either think somebody's hurt or if I'm home alone in the middle of the night and It rings I freak out for a split second, thinking it's a killer, then I'll answer it.

No not terrible. I do the same thing. Mine rang at 6:30 am and I was worried it was about my sick Grandpa, but it was my dad asking if my power was out. I got screwed out of a half hour of sleep.
