can you put cichlid sand with a beta? like the sand will it hurt them?

The cichlid sand is made of calcium carbonate and is meant to raise the pH of the water. Bettas don't need a high pH like some cichlids do.

If you like the look of sand rather than gravel or a bare bottom, you can buy colored sand for aquariums that's not made of calcium carbonate, so it won't change the pH of the water.

I take it you're referring to sand meant for African cichlids. They have special needs in their water which the sand helps. They require very hard water and high pH levels that bettas do not. You don't want to add anything that makes the bettas water higher in phosphates.

that would be a problem.....betta fish are meant to be just alone.....
