I think as a race blacks generally have the toughest life--look at what is going on in Africa! It's better in Europe, but I can't believe that after all these years of "freedom" and civil rights in the US that blacks are still experiencing discrimination.

There's a 2-part answer to this. 1. No, he embraced being black and enjoyed being a successful African American artist pushed into the mainstream (primarily the first). 2. Although he embraced his blackness, he hated that he didn't look the way he sounded. He was a dark skinned man with an afro (later Jheri Curl) and he was hi-pitched and sounded white. That coupled with his Vitiligo is why he had plastic surgery. He indeed had Vitiligo and Lupus but I do believe he sped up the process of his skin paling somehow. It was going to happen eventually, but not completely in 2 years. But did he hate being black? Absolutely not. That's why all his videos feature black girls and he did most of his charitable work in Africa as well. He wanted to be the face of self-worth in the black community.

Only the ones who make something of themselves. Too much playing of the race card. The people who did the things they did to the slave is terrible, but I had nothing to do with it. I don't think most anybody that is living in America right now, is responsible for what the founders of this land have done.

I think that alto of "black" people, just give off a bad image for the rest of the "black" population. I think, that all the "black" on "black" crime, the constant barrage of rap music, and the corrupting hand of the television, has alot to do with the reasons "people" see "black" folk differently. I am no way a racist, but I dont think alot of the "black" people are making the decisions of a sound mind.

They most definitely are. I'm not saying there aren't racist people still out there, but it's true.
Even in my school, people who live in my community have to pay really high school tax, but people who live in a neighboring community that is mainly black do NOT have to pay tax and get to come to my school for free because they live in government projects.
And when I graduate, due to affirmative action, I am going to have a harder time getting into a top school because I'm Asian and we have the lowest acceptance rate because there are so many going to college whereas blacks and Hispanics get higher acceptance rates with lower scores so colleges can have more diversity.
I'm truly sorry if I offend anyone because I'm not trying to...I just wish black people would stop saying they are being treated unfairly because of a handful of stupid racists out there.

No, because no one is truly color blind. And I don't see it happening soon until the whole world becomes racially blended and all the children are mocha or whatever it turns out like. Now I do want to say that blacks seem (correct me if I am wrong) to want a separatist society where they get extra considerations. I don't always mention that I am Irish or wear green and only talk about my race, because my race should not matter. I should be treated equally and so should you and it really helps if blacks don't refer to their blackness, as I don't want to refer to my Irishness, it is so Borrrring to be conscious of your race all the time. In Berkeley CA. it is interesting to see all the blended races and couples , it is very cool to be bi-racial. What do you think?

No one is being treated fair. Prices in this world go up and peoples income is not going up. People are judged before they even open their mouth. People in general are not fair. So no blacks are not being treated fair and they probably never will.

You mean Are blacks being treated fairly yet? And yes I treat everyone fairly so it depends on who you are talking too. I look at character not race.

They are being treated fairly in schools and education. I don't know any outwardly racist people in my everyday life, but in here there are so many racist questions against blacks. Maybe they are racists and they save it til they're safe behind a keyboard.

no. not yet. can you believe it is 2007 and some people are still so prejudiced against blacks?! i find that embarrasing. what a crock of sh*t that because someone has darker skin then me that someone would decide it would be wrong for me to date that darker person, refuse to buy a home next to a black person, send their kids to school with blacks etc. dang! no signs that say "WHITES ONLY" but we really haven't progressed to far....except my kids! lol i am happy to say i managed to raise children that do not judge based on sexuality, color, religion...well, that one is iffy, some of the bible thumpers really get to me.....
i think it was because we lived in a very diversified area while they were growing up...i have 2 catholic and 2 jewish children{adults now} and we lived mainly in a jewish area but mixed with asian, russian, black, mixed people, indians etc.
maybe in my great grandchildren's lifetime, there will be equality....whites will be a minority in america soon anyway so they better pull their head out of that place they put it.

They get better treatment than anyone else. If your not black you cant say black or ***** without being branded a racist. How many races have their own words that no one else is allowed to use? NONE!
