Observe the power supply fan when you press the power switch.
If it does not rotate, your power switch is defective or you plugged its connector on the wrong pins in the motherboard..

If it rotates for a few seconds then stops, it is an autoshutdown feature:
1. Check/reseat the cpu fan connector. If no fan rpm is detected by BIOS, PC goes on auto-shutdown. Happened to me twice on different PCs.
2. Check the cpu heatsink. Make sure it is mounted properly and does not touch any nearby capacitor or voltage regulator circuit. Actually happened to one of our peers here.
3. Try running PC w/ bare minimum devices; just 1 stick RAM, integrated video (if available), no HDD, no FDD and no CD drive. You should at least get to the BIOS menu w/ this set up.
4. If PC still goes on auto-shutdown, try unscrewing motherboard and operate PC w/ the board not touching anything metallic. If this does not work, motherboard could be defective and causing an overload on one of the power rails.

There are so many causes why Computer refuses to turn on. Sometimes the problem is just a simple one, but it seems you already know something about Computer Troubleshooting since you already bought a power supply.

I suggest you to visit this site, hope this will help.
