i think beauty transcends in any medium. i just happen to be better in photography than drawing, painting, sculpture etc.

this may be biased, but i think journalism style photography (or something along those lines; means no set-up) is one of the most meditative forms of art because a photographer has to work with whatever their environment presents to them. and by taking a picture, it freezes a small fraction of time and forces people to "be in the moment" for that perfect shot...especially for photographers.

Photography fails, even in the best hands, to show the human perception of the object of beauty. A painter or sculpter can add their interpretation, their perception into the mix.

It will not be the same perception of everyone else, but any human understanding of that moment is better than a simple 2 dimensional instant of reflected light.

I am an amateur photographer and enjoy it immensely but my brother's paintings have much more to offer.

Peace

Voltaire pointed out: "Triangles would think their God is triangular".
Painters say they go for the true beauty, be it literal or hidden.
Photographers aim at capturing a unique moment, ceizing the ephemeral uniqueness of beauty. I love photography not because I believe it is the best, but because I can depict the way I see things more instinctively, and thrive on capturing a unique moment, something the person next to me may not have noticed, but that I find beautiful...

Photography is good, but sometimes video is even better. Maybe I'm just a girl, but emotion is beautiful to me; I love sad movies, but I almost never cry during them.

Documentaries often make me cry when they show the slums of Africa or mothers forced to work in the sex trade. It's beauty defiled, and all you other Christians who spend so much time on protesting gayness and sex education, it's time to get some perspective. Life is beautiful and sacred.

The room I am in now is filled with photography. Although, it is black and white. I find it the most visually appealing of art forms regardless of the subject matter.

However, I also love sculpture and architecture.

Some photographs are very beautiful, but I prefer paintings myself, because they can show beauty of things that can never be photographed.
