Is this an invalid equation?

Yes, it is invalid because after working it out it simplifies to 6r = 6r + 11 which obviously cannot be true.

no, when you expand the right side of the equation you get 8r+16-2r, doing the math you get 6r+16 which is not the same as 6r+5.

6r+5=6r+16
0r=11

yes because it is 6r+5= 6r +16.. therefore the varaibles would cancel out
