These are the areas and i have to match them to their corresponding activities:
a proximal convoluted tubule,
distal convoluted tubule,
collecting duct,
descending limb of loop of nephron,
ascending limb of loop of nephron,
glomerular capsule,

the activities are:
glucose is reomved from the nephron,
creatinine enters the nephron,
uric acid enters the nephron,
salt is actively transported out of the nephron,
urine collects,

can you help me match up the sites to the activities???

The only location along the nephron that has the Na-glucose co-transporter is the proximal convoluted tubule, so it is the only location where glucose can be removed from the nephron lumen.

Creatinine is produced and excreted at a constant rate (proportional to muscle mass). It is freely filtered by the glomerulus – as easily as water. It is not secreted or reabsorbed by the nephron; therefore, the amount of creatinine filtered is equal to the amount of creatinine excreted. Therefore creatine enters the nephron with the rest of the filtrate in the glomerulus. It is my understanding that urea and/or uric acid is formed in the liver; it too would be present in the blood and thus would filter into the nephron at the glomerulus (http://www.sirinet.net/~jgjohnso/apbio38.html)

The proximal convoluted tubule reabsorbs approximately two-thirds of the NaCl, but I believe this is primarily passive, because the basolateral Na/K ATPase pump maintains a gradient for the movement of Na. There are some sodium selective channels in the collecting duct, but again this depends on diffusion. Thus, the only active movement of Na would be fromin the thick ascending loop of Henle. Urine collects in the collecting duct before moving down the ureter to the bladder.
