Pentagon report says no link between Saddam and Al-Qaeda
Fri Apr 6, 11:46 AM ET
WASHINGTON (AFP) -Interrogations of Saddam Hussein and seized documents confirmed the former Iraqi regime had no links with Al-Qaeda, a Pentagon report said Friday, contradicting the US case for the 2003 invasion.

A two-page resume of the report was published in February, but on Friday the Pentagon declassified the whole 120-page document.

According to the inspector general of the US Defense Department, information obtained after Saddam's fall confirmed the prewar position of the Central Intelligence Agency and Pentagon intelligence that the Iraqi government had had no substantial contacts with Al-Qaeda.

The ironic thing is that this is one of the few honest things they have ever admitted, yet the same day Cheney was on Meet the Press insisting just the opposite.

Perhaps because it is the truth? Note that this conclusion was based on intelligence gathered after the war when much of the guesswork was eliminated. We also found out that the Iraqi military thought they had WMD and wanted permission from Saddam to use them until he told them that it was a ruse to make Iran afraid to invade them. He believed the USA would not invade a secular Islamic government that was next door to Iran. He also believed that was the only possible explanation for President HW Bush giving him everything he wanted after the first war with hardly an argument. More often then not, wars happen because both sides are guessing what the other side's intentions are and what their capabilities are. Does it even make sense for the stated enemies of Al-Qaeda (first the USA, then the land of three holy cities, then the secular Islamic governments) to help them? We went into Iraq because we (and the world) thought Iraq had the capability and intentions of harming us. Saddam fooled everyone including himself.

The Pentagon lied? All of our intelligence was a lie. Bush lied.

Nixon lied - he was impeached. Clinton lied - he was impeached.

Why do so many people think this whole damned administration is all about lies when not a single, serious impeachment proposal has ever been drafted? Only rhetoric from the far left loonies.

Saddam hated Al Qaeda and other islamists and they hated him. He was a military dictator - they want a religious state. They tried to assassinate him he killed them and tortured them whenever possible. by removing him the US has encouraged Al qaeda greatly
