speed of sound = 343 m/s
so:
4 sec * 343m/s = 1372 meters away

This is a trick question, isn't it. It depends on how fast the plane is moving. If it's moving at 342 m/sec, directly towards you, it'll be about four meters away, and you'll be in trouble.
