Sweet Alyssum makes a sweet smelling border. Snapdragons, Coleus, Cyclamen, Lobelia is a beauty, Wax Begonia, Highbred Impatiens. Petunias, Tuberous Begonia, another beauty, Verbena. You have a nice large container, so just about anything will work, as most plants can tolerate partial shade.

In a planter I'd just go with the seasonal plants at the home center. Maybe add a light sprinkeling of feterlizer and mix the soil well if it has been previously used.

impatients do very well in the shade and they bloom all season long and they are beautifull as well and they dont need much water .
