There are very few people who can call themselves atheist and who will be able to hold a philosophical discussion to disprove the existance of God and sustain their position. If they can do this then they are atheist, the rest of you would fall under the catergory of agnosticism, not true atheists

Even having said that God is Sovereign over all the earth!

The question then is do you agree that you are not really an atheist as you cannot prove your disbelief in God and SUSTAIN your arguement for your disbelief?

Its one thing for someone to say I don't believe, its another to explain why they don't believe, agnostics will say they don't believe but cannot justify their position, true atheist will be able to justify their position, (though it is clearly wrong)

Please consult a dictionary and look up

Atheist
Agnostic

It is best you have your definitions correct before commenting

As for my belief why do you think I forced my belief on you, you know its not true, I was stating my belief as much as you are stating yours, OR are you the only one allowed to "force" your belief on others through my silence and your self professing declaration?

I would rather be an idiot for Christ, than a self-deceived scholar of the highest regard

Your position about Atheism is clearly distorted, so let me clear some things up for you:

Atheists do not believe in a supernatural deity in any way, shape or form. Our aim is not to disprove the existence of one god over another, because we simply do not acknowledge the existence of a higher authority ruling over all things.

Next, asking us to disprove the existence of god is like us asking you to prove the existence of said god. It's the easiest form of logical fallicy I can think of, so it's self-defeating to ask us something we cannot prove, the same as us asking you to provide us evidence against the fact.

Lastly, it's obvious that you posted this "question" to rile up some folks with that last comment, calling us "clearly wrong," so please climb off that high horse you're riding and look at the big picture: your beliefs are just that. Your own. Why try to piss off people by forcing your beliefs down our throats by saying "I'm right! I'm right!" It's immature and has no place in an intellectual conversation (something you know little about, apparently).

Edit: OK, buddy! I went ahead and did as you asked. Here's some cut & pastes from 3 separate dictionaries defining "atheist":
Yourdictionary.com: One who disbelieves or denies the existence of God or gods.

Merriam-Webster:one who believes that there is no deity

Dictionary.com: —Synonyms Atheist, agnostic, infidel, skeptic refer to persons not inclined toward religious belief or a particular form of religious belief. An atheist is one who denies the existence of a deity or of divine beings.

Going through your post history, it's painfully obvious that you are a devout Christian. More power to you. But does that, in turn, give you permission by ANY source to slander the beliefs of others? Answer that, and I'll gladly brush my teeth with barbed wire.

Also, I would LOVE to see where I forced my beliefs (or lack thereof) upon you. Please! I'm quite interested to know where you're coming from on this issue. Is there an ex that was an Atheist? Perhaps your parents? Fill me in, bud.

i believe there is no proof either for or against the existence of God or Gods, it must come down to personal belief. i do however think that if one is fervently atheist then this in itself is a religion as valid as any other. agnostics simply haven't made up their minds and this is equally valid- it's their right not to have, just as it's other peoples right to be certain of their beliefs. if you are religious (which it seems as though you are from your question) it would be as well to remember 'judge not lest ye be judged', but more importantly that God loves a sinner.....

I agree with "ronnin' and others. The categorization of :Atheist, Agnostic, or a Theist and the dictionary meanings are based on their BELIEF, not on their ability to logically prove or disprove in a philosophical debate.

What a long winded rant. You start with the presumption that God exists, and then claim that atheists need to give evidence of his non-existence to maintain our atheism. It's absurd and backwards. The fact is that the burden of proof is on the person who makes the claim. If you say "God exists", the burden is not on me to disprove that. It's on you to show evidence for your claim. And extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Besides that, which God are you arguing for? I assume the Christian god but it doesn't really matter. The point is that you and I are both atheists. I just take it one god farther.

So does this mean that someone who cannot defend their christian beliefs in a debate with another person is not a real chritstian?

Atheist means I don't BELIEVE in god, it has nothing to do with my skill in a debate or my familiarity with common arguments for or against theism.

Sorry. You are wrong.

I consider myself an atheist and I don't have to justify why to anyone... My beliefs are my own and they are NOT wrong... Can you PROVE God is real??? No, I thought not...

Religion is an opinion... and an opinion cannot be wrong...

Agnostic? Whatever. I'm as agnostic about notions of gods as I am about Pink Pixies on Mars.

its alot easier to give a reason why god doesnt exist, than give a reason god does exist. considering the complete lack of proof that god exists.

but, I really dont care how you group me, I dont care if he exists or not, Im just not the kind of person who will bow to someone else no matter who they are.

If I'm an athiest than I'm an athiest

I'm not calling your views wrong so don't call mine
