My birthday is the 4th of July and my boyfriend and I are wanting to make a trip to Vegas to celebrate. Any ideas?

Affordable and fabulous have become oxymorons in Vegas in the past decade. All of the high end places like Venetian, Bellagio and Wynn have seriously jacked up the room rates in town. Any of those places on a holiday weekend with be $300+.

I would suggest a mid-tier place such as Flamingo or Ballys which are still nice places to stay but wont break the bank. They are also in a great location, mid-strip, which is an easy walk to many casinos.

If you really want to save money on the room, consider the Stratosphere. It is often the cheapest place on the strip and the rooms are pretty decent though basic. The only downside is the location which is at the far north end of the strip.

I just got back from Vegas last week and stayed at the Venetian and it was fabulous! The staff were super friendly and rooms were newly renovated and very clean. You can take a gondola ride through the hotel and around to all the shops. Very romantic. The restaurants were fantastic. I recommend Bouchon for breakfast at least once.

I have stayed at the New York New York a few times and the room rates are reasonable. Check out their website.

I like NYNY and Luxor for reasonable rates for good rooms. I just got back Sunday night from staying at NYNY.
