Yes. There are a lot of unseen germs and all kinds of sick people visiting the theater.....older people who can fight off infections and sicknesses easier than a new baby.
Now a good alternative (I did this with my kids) was the drive-in theater. You should be fine in your own car and baby should sleep straight thru. You control the volume and temp in your vehicle.

OK I didn't read all the responses, but I am sure that someone has said this already..keep that baby home. Honestly I am not sure if I want to bring my 1 year old to a matinee showing of Shrek because I know how it feels to have someone bring a baby to the movie theater who cries or just disrupts the movie. If you must see the movie try to get a babysitter. Nothing can be more uncomfortable than a bunch of frustrated people constantly looking at you to figure out why you brought the baby with you, talking about you, or you may run into some people who will be bold enough to ask you to leave. so save yourself the hassle.

Yes....I know it may be more convenient to take the child to the movies....but this is also a distraction to others who would like to enjoy a movie without a baby crying and/or causing a distraction. Plus a 2 month old is not going to get much out of a movie at most the child will be scared of the loud noise!!! A 2 month old should be at home sleeping...the movies is not the time or place for a 2 month old!!!! So please do other things with your 2 month old...as in read to the baby and comfort the child!!! If you want to see a movie leave the baby with a family member you trust!!!!

Personally, I think there should be some sort of nationwide rule against children under 2 being taken to a movie theatre, unless it is one of those 'stroller days' type movies, where they have a certain showing on a certain day that people are allowed to bring infants/small children to.
First off all, the noise level is so high that in extreme cases, it may actually damage your baby's hearing. Also, staring at the huge screen could damage their eyes, and it's usually freezing cold in there.
And second, if your baby doesn't sleep through the whole thing like you're hoping, then you're either going to make the whole room mad and get asked to leave or you're going to have to go out in the hall way and miss most of it anyway.
Do the world a favor and wait till it comes out on video. Or here's a novel idea: get a baby sitter! I bet Grandma would love to help out.
Before everyone gets all judgmental, I do have a baby. He's 15 months old, and will likely not set foot in a movie theatre until he's at least 3.
But I also work as security for movie theatres, and just seeing someone walk in with a baby carrier gets every other patron ready to complain at a moments notice.

I have not tried it. But I read in Parents magazine that it is OK to take babies to the movies even newborns. They like the dark and the loud noise makes them fall asleep. The advice was to go and sit in the back of the theatre so that if the baby starts to cry you can easily leave. I really don’t know if your baby is going to like it. I have a 7 month old and she hates loud things, they scare her and she starts to cry so I don’t think that taking her to the movies would work. But if your baby does not mind the sound you can give it a try and find out.
Here is what some readers from BabyCenter say about this:

The only reason you would take a baby to the movies is because you couldn't find a sitter. There is NOTHING about the movies that an infant would enjoy...it's loud...it's dark...and everyone will be pist off when the baby starts crying. You want to do something fun with your 2 month old? Try a swimming pool or maybe a park.

I think it's incredibly rude to take babies/toddlers to the movies. For a baby as young as yours, the noise alone from the theater would probably scare her, causing her to scream/cry. You'd have to leave the theater to calm her down, miss part (or all) of the movie, so why bother going? Wait until the movie comes out on video or hire a babysitter. Not sure where you live, but here in Georgia a movie ticket is nearly $10. People are paying good money to get in, and they have every right to enjoy their movie in peace--not listening to a fussy/crying baby.

Yes, there's no way your 2 month old will be quite for the full length of the movie. It's rude to the other patrons who have paid good money to see the movie. Leave the baby with a sitter if you want to go.

That would be really rude. For one, the baby will have no idea what is going on with all the loud noises and might get scared. And if he\she is scared, then they will cry and interrupt the movie for everybody. And there wont be any bonding time..hopefully you wouldn't just sit there and talk to your baby and keep him occupied until the movie is over? C'mon now thats common sense.

i think it is good to take the baby out places but a movie is a bad idea. The baby will not remember the movie at all and he/she will probabaly cry at some point in the movie bothering other people around. It's better to leave the baby at home and go alone to the movies or just take the baby somewhere different.

i had the same thought myself. i've heard conflicting things from other parents...some say its great because the baby will just sleep through it. however, my greatest concern was the baby's hearing. i've done some research, and a lot has shown that movie theaters nowadays are much louder than they were in the past and can do serious damage to a baby's developing hearing, so i wouldn't recommend it. me, if there is even a chance of something detrimental occuring to my child, i avoid. also, i recently asked my pediatrician, two days ago, and he agreed with me and that damage can occur.
