help i have a science paper due and i need to know what chloride levels are healthy!!!

It depends on what kind of run-off is going into the creek. Usually, creeks are monitored in large urban areas for a base rate of a constiuent, usually when it's not raining. Then it's checked after rain events to see if there is an increase in a particular constiuent.

I live in Austin, TX and chlroride is monitored. The range is 35-50 mg/L. I have never seen it vary much in 17 yrs.

Of course, these numbers can vary based on where you live.

I would imagine chloride is more important in areas where salting roads is performed. It's also an issue in areas where drinking water sources are affected by naturally occuring salinity.

The 1st link is an example of a limit for irrigation.

The 2nd is a chloride study performed in north Texas due to naturally occuring salinity.

For drinking water, the maximum level is 250 mg/L. See the 3rd link for EPA info.

There is no particularly healthly level of chloride in creek water. As little as possible is desired. With chloride goes sodium, and if you have too much of each, the water becomes salty.
