it's probably not the detergent,, but could be bleach.

deep root fertilization might be in order.

Well established oak trees are quite finicky about what goes on around their base. One of the answers I read suggested to use a water based fertilizer which is good advice. This needs to be done by an arborist as he will have the proper equipment needed to inject the fertilizer into the ground. This is something that requires specific equipment in order to inject the fertilizer into the ground so the feeder roots can then utilize the fertilizer and send it up into the crown of the tree. Oak trees especially don't like too much water.. It would be great if you could call an arborist in your area to come out and evaluate it's circumstances, prefferably an arborist equiped with the right tools to feed the tree properly.

It probably isn't the detergent as much as too much water. Oak trees tend to be drought tolerant. That means they don't need much water. If they get too much water the roots can't breath and the tree dies.

In your case all the drain water is more than the tree needs The fact is most plants thrive on detergent but can't tolerate too much water.

The solution is to stop dumping the drain water on the tree.

Also, cut the dead branches off. The three "D's", Dead, diseased, or dying. Cut them off.

Good luck!!!

Detegent would never poison a tree.
Do you put something else in the water?
Well any howbefore you add more chemicals to that trees small world do two things.
First leach out the soil with plain water for a week.
Maybe an hour a day not more because the ground would be too saturated.
Then go to a good garden store and get MICRO RYZOMES.
it is a group of fungi that live in harmony with the tree roots and not only protect them from bad fungi, but help promote good root growth. HEALTH START is the only trade name I can think of off hand.
