It depends...
Music is not officially edited as it's actually edited for "community standards"
Ok ok... basically if a community would find a word offensive, it would be banned... But the FCC will usually only act on gross misconduct.. It has allowed curse words if it's needed to explain something (this is why some movies are aired unedited for).. But has never been put to music on the radio however
Hince one area may have a song that no one finds offensive to the lyric "screw you man" , whereas another would find offense where it would be switched to "I'm outta here" (this is the only clean to clean edit I know of that yahoo would allow other than some songs being edited for drug references)

no because the FCC will fine them big time, there is a reason why eminem is barely on the radio waves these days. But usually after 1 or 2 am on the rap stations, they can play unedited songs.

The degree to which your question is valid is promptly relative to the fashion of radio station you're listening to. occasion: perfect 40 radio stations have an particularly intense turnover of their mixture. They play songs VERY commonly. classic Rock stations, on the different hand, commonly show satisfaction of their form and each so often do no longer play an identical music for days at a time. the reason for repetition varies, yet in perfect 40 radio it relatively is via what's usually used as TSL, or Time Spent Listening. If a radio station has listeners who basically pay attention for short sessions of time, like interior the motor vehicle, or on the bus on a thank you to college, then they play their music greater commonly to make certain you hear it while you're listening.

In commercial radio, they are regulated by Federal Communication Commission. However, thru the internet, and satellite radio. They are not controlled by the FCC so much. However, Satellite Radio is liscence thru the FCC, but it is not regulated, for one reason. It is a prescribed service. Internet radio; however, has its unlimited warranties. Unless you post a commercial station. The FCC has no control over private sites.

Most stations, 90% of them, do not. But there are those, like mine, (660 AM) that dare to be different. We play whatever, whenever. My signal is bad, and it is mainly old songs, but it is a start to my own Radio Station! well, hope that helped. God bless you.

***WELL, IT ALL DEPENDS ON WHAT IT IS AND HOW MUCH LANGUAGE IT HAS IN IT. THERE ARE FCC REGULATIONS THAT NEED TO BE FOLLOWED AND BECAUSE OF THAT, A LOT OF TODAY'S MUSIC HAS TO BE EDITED IN ORDER TO GET ANY AIR PLAY.***
