why do therapists or pastors react to them? Has anyone dealt with a loved one that has gone from bad to worse after seeking guidance from strangers?

A person who is consistantly dishonest places a whole lot of pressure on the family using these people to do so. Anyone had this experience?

If a person is untruthful around family members, then I'd say there's a better-than-even chance that the family is putting SOME kind of pressure on that person. A therapist or clergyperson is often uninvolved with the goings-on within a family, and is able to be a more objective observer.

A lie is a form of power. A control that is useful to avoid or obtain some phenomenon or other and family members are the best at it. Who has a daughter or son who does not get this and know this to be a reality so common that to deny it happens is a self-made lie far worse than any they are related to. Us humans are the most conniving of snicklers I lie you not...
