If you check the San diego Reader for upcoming events tha is usually the best bet look under "events and thend "special" that usually gives you the low down on all what is happeneing in san diego during the weekend.

Dowtown San Diego has it all as far as entertainment goes. As far as BBQing why not just find a nice park and having one there? San Diego is jam packed with great parks that you can BBQ at!

is it too early in the season for one of those concerts on the pier? depending on what kind of music they like, might work.
