You might try buying small easy to ship items at garage sales and reselling them on ebay. It'd take a little time and space, but you could make a few hundred a week within a month of two.

First, you should be specific what you desire to earn. Remember, basic business math states that
Total Cost Per End Product = [ (Cost of supplies & shipping)+(Cost of labor)+(Operating Cost)+(Equipment depreciation)+ (Cost of Advertising & marketing) ] / #Products
This also means Profit is
Selling Price minus all of the above, and the market will only tollerate a specific price for your item.
You may sell a shirt for $50.00 but realize a profit of $0.03 USD, and you still made a profit.
Define your profit and study a basics in operating a home business...so you know about determining profit or loss ...not just do it untill one day down the road you see you'ver been running at a loss all along - just took time to surface.
Oh, and by the way learn about internet scams....there really is no Get Rich schemes that work for anyone except those selling them. Do what you like, if it is substancially profitable over a short term period. And the end product can be sold at this profit with minimal cost.

Hopefully you realize there are hundreds of get rich at home scams out there, most especially offered through SPAM on the WWW, and TV.
PROFIT is relative,,,no offense. We all gauge income/survival/comfort levels differently.
I think my first suggestion would be DO what you KNOW, and are good at, LOCALLY advertising the fact. You state you WANT to sew. If you're able, you might try doing that out of your home, but not strictly as a designer initially as much as by being an in home "seamstress" taking in work. Connect with theater groups who all have costume needs, and very often SUB OUT their work loads, local Dry Cleaners, Seniors organizations, Single Female Parent organizations, etc..
The major consideration might be "take baby steps" to begin, and network, network, network, to anyone and everyone who will listen and has a need of a service you offer.
If for example "sewing" is a way to begin, have decent equipment, and be creative in suggestions (much like a designer) Patterns are a bargain in my opinion, but at that stage you truly are "inventing" not taking on what some "customer" may have in mind.
Even in that narrow class of employment, you might also learn about the structure of fabrics, the various thread types, even go so far as learning how to operate various pieces of sewing equipment IE: Surgers,,,and may in time, even be able to help others in repairs or similar to this forum (Q&A) help others for a fee.
Guiding you may not strictly happen here beyond various opinions in the answers we give you, but certainly those things you personally are most interested in should be explored, and you should gain all the knowledge you can about them.
