Does a pickle in a jar(with it's juices but opened)take to decompose?

probably quite a while. I would think that the vinegar acts as a sort of protectant and preservative. Course if the lid is off, the liquid will evaporate and then the poor pickle will shrivel all up.

yes. pickles once ready should be stored in an airtight jar. it'll stay good for six months atleast.

If it's in the 'fridge and it's a vinegar based brine (not juice), and you keep it closed..those things will last a LONG time.

good question, I just smelled olives that have been in my fridge for 2 years, they are still fine...I guess it is the same difference..so my guess would be a very long time...
