I have to make another model of an animal for a science, project, can anyone help me by telling me what materials I'll need for what parts for the body? I'm going to use paper mache for the body, but I'm not sure what I'll use for the tails and fins. Can anyone help me out? Thanks in advance!

I would go ahead and use the mache for the body, for the fins and tail you could use clear or coloured celophane as it will remain transparent. For the markings in the fins use split pieces of matchsticks painted black, it will make the fins stand up and you will be able to insert into the paper mache either after it is dry but it may be better to put into wet. You could also jazz up the body by gluing on clear sequins over you have painted it in different places to catch the light as if it were in the water. Have fun!

I'd look for a material called "Cellu-clay": it's a mix of shredded paper and plaster that dries nice and light, but solid. It's easy to shape and mold.

For Fins, you could use sheet styrene plastic, or even a cellophane with wire-supports.

I'm not sure if you are building the fishes INSIDES... again, Cellu-clay would work fine here.

Good luck !!

fun foam comes in sheets the size of paper and in an assortment of colors. It is firm but soft enough to form it into any shape. The fins will stand up and not wilt or change shape after you apply them.
You can get it at WalMart, JoAnn crafts, or any craft store. Also available at Walgreens and other departments where children's stationary is sold.
