First, note that they are not poisonous or particularly hostile creatures.
Second, remember that you are bigger, stronger, and (I hope) smarter than them, and that they therefore pose no threat to you.
After that, if you are still afraid of them, then good luck with life.

I know they seem creepy, and some people have been raised to believe that they're "dirty" - but bugs are just very small animals. I think if you view them in that way, it might help. Also remember that cicadas don't bite or sting, and provide food for LOTS of other animals when they make their appearance. I'm not sure if this will help you; I personally find bugs very interesting as long as they're not venomous. They are very important to our world, and are really pretty cool when you start to learn about them.
Good luck, and hang in there - the adult cicadas don't live very long at all.

I heard June 1st. They were here a couple of years ago and it was terrible. I would get a swatter to carry around with you so you can swat them. They love noise so dont mow your lawn until sundown. I drove with my backwindows down and the backseat was filled with them so I wouldnt suggest that.

Sorry, no sympathy.
Cicadas only live about 40 days.
They don't bite, and don't usually bother humans.
But. please note, they are clumsy fliers and one MIGHT bump into you, but no harm will occur.
They live for one thing: to mate, and then go into the ground for another 17 years.
