Lazy drawl, not concise.I know different parts of the USA have different accents and I find southern ones hard to understand.I still find English English much clearer, aspecially that spoken in the south of the country,in the Home Counties. There does seem to be a world of difference between the American accent and speech as used in films and on TV and the actual everyday speech of it,'s citizens..

I quite like the American accents. I'm not entirely certain that I can explain why though.

American speech seems slower and much clearer (especially compared to West Yorkshire where I am from). I suppose I associate American accents with cowboys in a way.

Yanks seem to be a bit tougher and more rugged than Englishmen. Much more relaxed and a bit less formal, but also louder and less polite. Exactly the sort of speech I would expect from decendants of English colonists, I suppose. lol

Depends where the American person is from! Personally I love American accents :-D especially New Yorkers
They're not all that weird really, I wouldn't hear an American person and think it sounded really alien as 1/2 the progams shown on TV are American... so it's pretty normal really.

It's hard to decribe. Americans seem to speak slowly and clearly, but get different accents.

I'm Australian,
We hear it all the time...with so many US TV shows!
It sounds very distinctive and sometimes 'over the top'.
Our accent is so laid back and you emphasise words a lot more than us.
Do you like the Aussie accent?

I'm Irish, not British, but will answer anyway.
No offence, but an American accent sounds rather like someone is speaking - usually loudly - with marbles in their mouth.

Very annoying, sorry I prefer the canadian accent, much softer. And you americans have a real problem pronouncing english words, so why you say you speak English is beyond me, we don't say trash we say rubbish for example. Just admit it you speak AMERICAN.
