Since I can't afford an LCD yet, I plan to get a flat non-LCD one. These have almost the same prices (the 17inch is just $17 higher) and are within my budget:

15" LG Flatron T530SAK

or

17" AOC 7F Flat

What should I go for? I mean I'm looking for quality, not just screen size. Which is more long-lasting and less prone to breakage/problems? My current monitor has been serving me for almost 4 years and I want the replacement to live up to the expectation.

I've been using the LG Flatron for about 3 years now, and it works pretty well.
I don't know about the AOC.

Don't discount LCD's because they're a little more expensive than an older CRT. I paid $160 for my 19" Acer LCD. That is NOT expensive. I actually paid MORE for my 19" CRT flatscreen several years back. If you have a good UPS (uninterruptable power supply) it will tell you power usage of your system. My 19" LCD consumes about 60 watts LESS than my 19" CRT. Thats like having a 60 watt light bulb burning 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The energy savings you get by switching to LCD will literally pay for the slight increase in cost in LESS than a year.

Go to Newegg.com

They have amazing prices. And if you catch them on a good day you can get some crazy deals on monitors.

Look around, I'm sure you can afford an LCD after all.

Go to tigerdirect.com. They have great prices on monitors. I love my 19" LCD that I bought from there, and it was not expensive. I have had it for over a year now, and have not had the first bit of trouble out of it. It is a Hanns-G.

What is your budget? Newegg, like it was suggested before, has some good prices on LCD. If budget is 100-200 check this, http://www.newegg.com/Product/ProductList.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=2000190020+4017&name=%24100+-+%24200. If not check out the CRT section if you want one of those instead. Check out the reviews of the ones you consider buying on the product page they're usually usefull.
