The growers are probably bringing the melons to market too early and before they are done fully ripening. The area where they were grown might have had a colder than average growing season. A local farmers market or fruit stand might have better melons because they are able to leave them in the field longer. They are selling them locally and don't have to worry about picking them early and a bit green so they will hold up under shipping.
If you don't have either you will have to wait to the height of the water melon season in the country you are in to get better melons. You probably are getting melons from overseas right now.

Look, assuming that you're buying from the same brand that you used to and that their manufacturing process haven't changed, I might assume either of these possibilities:
1) your tastebuds got used to the taste and feel it very lightly.
2)Their soil is running out of the components that can spark fructose.
The best watermelon you can get is the one at those Garden stores. That's right. Home improvement counts on this case too. I'm talking about planting your own watermellons. It's not only awesome to taste something that you've taken care of with your own preferences but it's also locally grown, which helps the environment.
Good luck.

I hear you. The last two watermelons I bought were dry, and were not sweet at all. I was extremely disappointed.
