i can't just multiply 3.9, it doesnt work.

years are the whole numbers.
months are the decimals.
So, you have 3 years -> 3
and 9 months out of 12 (because there are 12 months in a year). -> 9/12
9/12 = 0.75
add the two, you get 3.75

Since 1 year has 12 months, therefore 9 months = 9/12. So 2 years 9 months is 2 9/12 2 9/12 = 2 3/4 = 2.75 years

well you cant have 3.9 anyway, becuase that would mean that you have 3 years and 9 tenths of a year. there are twelve months, so you have to divide 9 by 12 (9/12) to find what the decimal is. 9/12 is .75 so 3 years and 9 months is 3.75 years

no you can't just multiply it
you need to determine how much of a year is 9 months to do this you multiply 9 months by 1 year/12months
9 months * 1 year/12 months = .75 year
so 3 years and 9 months = (3 + 0.75) year = 3.75 year
