For it's age, that's not a surprising amount of mileage. However, 217K is still very high for a car you are about to purchase. Talk to your mechanic to see what (s)he thinks about the car. And if it helps, I drive a 1989 Honda Accord with 266K! It still runs and usually costs $600 or less in repairs each year. Not bad since 600 doesn't even cover 2 new car payments for most cars!

I'm going to tell you straight up. HELL NO YOUR GETTING RIPPED OFF!!!! that year prelude with that amount of miles should cost at the maximum price $3000 and thats only if its in mint condition. They are trying to rip you off and thats not right. its ok to stay with a honda as they are not that expensive to get repaired. Repair cost is actually cheaper thatn you would think. A honda engine will normally go about 250,000 miles with no problem.
i would recommend getting a civic because the engines are way cheaper than an engine for a prelude. If you want some style you can look into a del sol. But like i said dont fall for their trap becuase i am 100% positive that it is not worth it. If you dont believe me check on ebay for the average price of the same car.

I own a 1998 honda Accord and the only problem I've had is the paint is chipping and peeling real bad in the trunk area. Also, I just replaced the transmission on it at about $2300.00 and the car only have 133,000 miles on it and i purchased it brand new. If you want to buy it I know I can go cheaper than the price you mentioned and the car is fully loaded and practically new with the transmission in it.

With that number of miles I would think it twice before I buy it; The best you can do is request a repair history from whoever you're buying it from; If there is none available, have it check out for oil leaks, engine performance ,and transmission operation. Other than that, you're buying a car prone to carry you some expensive repairs. Buy that '98 Accord offered by Derrick...

JESUS CHRIST, you can get a 2000 civic SI for that amount with half the miles. That price is ridiculous. Look at KBB.COM and look at the price they list a MINT SI top of the line model in perfect condition with 140,000 miles for $2,225. They are asking for more than double. either they are rip off artists, or are trying to prey on you because you are female.
