It's been a while since I read the book, but as I remember, the Marquis was a French aristocrat. He had many servants, and had a fancy cup of chocolate brought to him each morning by several of these servants. This shows how disgustingly well-to-do he was compared to the average French citizen of the time.
Also, I think it was he who said that if the people were so poor and starving, they should eat grass like cows.

Why cant you read the chapters? If you have a legitimate reason why you can't read them, tell it to the teacher and ask for an extension. Teachers arent monsters - if you have a good reason, you will be excused a couple of days until your personal matter is taken care of. But my question to you is - if you have a personal reason why you cant read the material, why are you online? Pax - C

It became required for me in 8th grade,,yet then you definately knew that,,,smiles. Required even with the undeniable fact that,,, regarding "A tale" regarded a merciless and unusual punishment, and with maximum of extra advantageous selections obtainable,,even suited ones, it "taught" me little. Arguabley,,, It became a private fact from the author, and not one everybody shares in context, fee, utility to an evolving society, or experience. Angel,,, i'm hoping you get carry of to the two words,,,the tip,,,and have chosen yet another, lighter fare, for the subsequent study. i admire ya besides Aldara... REV. Steven

You need to read the two chapters. Cliffnotes is not enough.
