As a home owner I pay plenty for school tax.
This is for education. This is fair and needed even if I don’t have children in the school.
Sports and the over and above cost so kids can play sports at my expense is my beef.
Some will say sports keeps kids out of the bad things of this world.
True for a few I will say.
But it never ends…
Bond issue is up locally for 49.9 million.
The school says school tax will not go up due to a federal mandate.
The money will come from other taxes and fees etc. It will still come out of the community.
The local school wants the money mainly for new stadiums and parking lots for the game goers. When people are charged to get in the games the money never goes back into the tax pool but to build ummmm …lets see, more sports related buildings etc.
We have them now but they say they want to move them for…ready for this…..better parking.
BTW moving them really means build news ones.
Sports in school. Put the $$$ for the lets say ummmm…..education of the mind.
Not the USA pastime at the local expense.

I agree that taxes should fund schooling. Sports and the related equipment is very expensive and of course, every kids has to be outfiitted with Pro equipment. Music clubs are the same as well as any other extra curricular activity. Problem is, someones Ox will be gored on any number of these extras so it is doubtful a real change will ever be made. Sports seems to be more important that scholarship.

I have no kids in school now so it does bug me when 60% of my property tax goes to the schools here. This is a small town but we HAD to have the largest grade school in the state of Illinois. Which now has unused classrooms they are renting out just to keep them filled.

Maybe I'm old fashioned by I'd rather having them learning the basics of scholarship than any of the extra curricular activites. Many more will find jobs in fields other than those dealing with sports, music etc. but you'd never know it from the reaction of the sport parents.
